REMOVE Josef Tomšej

Josef Tomšej is an exhibition architect and craft-based designer. Between 2015 – 2023, he worked at the iconic Qubus Design Studio and now focuses on his own projects as a freelancer. Through critical approach to the craft heritage and materail knowlage, he challenges conventional ideas about materials and objects, blurring the boundaries of usability / functionality and questioning the established principles in product and exhibition design. His objects are crafted in regional workshops, supporting local traditions and manufacturing techniques, from materials such as clay, porcelain, glass, cast iron and wood. Each piece is handmade, either by the designer himself or by skilled craftsmen with whom he has collaborated for many years. Josef is currently active at the Faculty of Art and Design, J. E. Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem and he works with both exhibition and commercial galleries, including the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, a leading cultural institution dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich heritage of design, crafts and applied arts.
