"Last Friend" is an emotive CGI animated short film that takes viewers into a post-apocalyptic world where humans no longer exist. At the center of the story is a robot named Qubi, whose task is to unpack and sort objects from boxes - a job he performed for humans as long as they existed. Qubi lives alone in a room full of old boxes, where his only companion is a bonsai tree growing in the middle of the room on top of a defunct atomic bomb. Qubi spends his days playing with found objects and admiring them together with his green friend. However, one day the old stairs leading to the bonsai tragically break, and the tree falls and dies. Desperate Qubi discovers that a small twig of the tree survived, and so decides to find a new home for it in the form of a suitable container. During his search, he encounters a series of comical complications, until he eventually decides to use a split human skull as a container for his little green friend. "Last Friend" is a story about friendship, loss, and hope, while also offering a strong contrast between the living and the non-living, life and death. This film will make you reflect on our relationship with nature and the legacy we leave for future generations.
